A very useful how-to site, providing direct information and lots of links to essential information for prospective and active nonprofits, including how to get started, how to organize, and how to stay in business.
IRS Information for Charities and Non-Profits
From the US Internal Revenue Service, this site includes information about nonprofits, as well as types of nonprofits, and the requirements for becoming a tax-exempt organization. There is also a list, Publication 78, to find out if a particular organization is eligible for tax-deductible charitable contributions.

The NonProfit Times
Home page of the nonprofit management publication. Each year they publish a study of the top 100 nonprofits and a salary survey. You can also find up-to-date news on issues (law, taxation, etc.) of interest to nonprofits.

Includes a list of member agencies, volunteer opportunities, special leadership programs for nonprofits, and the Nonprofit Training Center (which offers workshops and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations).
IRN: Information and Referral Network
This group facilitates "connections between people who need human services and those who provide them." This site has information about their publications, including the The Rainbow Book, and services such as Helpline.

Nonprofit Risk Management Center
This organization, itself a nonprofit, provides an online resource center "on a range of risk management, liability and insurance topics" and free phone or e-mail based technical assistance.
BoardSource
Formerly the national Center for Nonprofit Boards, this is a membership organization that provides training and information for organization board members. There is a "comprehensive list" of "board essentials."
CompuMentor
A nonprofit organization "specializing in technology assistance for community-based organizations." They sponsor TechSoup.org, which provides lots of technology how-to information for nonprofits.
