What is a Library Advocate?
Advocates are friends of the Library committed to expressing their support for the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library to elected officials. Advocates also may wish to attend public hearings to demonstrate their support of public library funding. You will not be asked to speak in public, unless, of course, you indicate your willingness to do so.

Why become a Library Advocate?
Because you need the Library and the Library needs you!
The Library needs advocates to help communicate the Library's needs to their elected City-County Councilors, State Representatives and Senators. By becoming an Advocate, you will show your elected officials that you support the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library and the valuable services it provides you and your community.

Does being a Library Advocate cost anything?
Being a Library Advocate doesn't cost a cent - just a little bit of your time and energy.

What does it take to be a Library Advocate?
A few times a year we will contact you by e-mail and ask that you e-mail or call your legislator or City-County Councilperson expressing your support for library services. If you don't know who your elected officials are, we'll let you know. We will give you the points that need to be made and we will make every effort to make the process of advocacy as easy and painless as possible.

Why do you need my home address?
Elected officials want to know what the voters in their districts think. We need your home address so we can ensure that your message goes to the proper legislator or councilperson. We will, of course, not share your information with anyone.
